This method of therapy involves offering a safe, empathic, non judgemental, respectful environment where you can share, offload, explore your emotions, whilst being heard fully and guided to make sense of your presenting issues. This therapy is very much at your own pace, and you can use sessions to better understand the root of your issue and the impact on your life.
An analogy used is ‘the messy room’. If the floor is cluttered the door cannot be opened fully to reach anything. A counsellor cannot take away the ‘clutter’ as it may be linked to life experiences such as grief, however counselling can help you to sort out the clutter into neat boxes. This will enable you to walk freely in the room and ignore boxes you may wish to and choose to explore others.
So, in life this can mean increased happiness, better focus and coping more effectively, as you will have explored and better understood your feelings and emotions.
Most services offer between 6-8 sessions, however the decision is yours and you may wish to end sooner or extend sessions.
*Discounted price of £28 per session for teenagers, students and for individuals in receipt of government benefits.
As with person centred therapy you will of course be offered all the same conditions outlined above. The differentiating factor is that there is an agreement that this is one session only.
In this session we will work together, with a goal orientated mindset, to help resolve a problem you are facing.
Single session therapy can be provided for any issue you are facing. Prior to the session you will be asked what specific issue you wish to discuss during the session and this is what you will be encouraged to focus on.
Please note a 15 minute follow up call will be offered, booked for 2 weeks after the session. This will allow you time to reflect on the session, put into practice any suggestions that were offered and decide whether you require any further support.
Single session therapy is best delivered at the point of need. Separate slots are kept for delivery of single session therapy, so that the service can be accessed quickly.
