Text therapy is preferable for some people who find interactions stressful and/or experience social anxiety. It is also convenient as you can be as comfortable and relaxed, or maybe even on the go, as you wish. It can also help if you are worried that your environment may be too loud for a video session, due to children, pets etc.
Many people find that they can communicate deeply by text, as some things they may not be used to saying out loud, or worry about being overheard by those around them.
Studies have found that text-based therapy services are effective in treating mental health conditions, with similar results as traditional face-to-face counselling therapy. Research also evidenced that a single session of text-based counselling noticibly reduced anxiety levels, and increased feeling hopeful.
